Send Your Kids Back to School with their Vaccines Up to Date

SIMCOE, September 10, 2014 – The Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit is reminding parents that every child going to school must be immunized and provide proof of immunization against serious and potentially life-threatening diseases.

According to Ontario law, children need to have proof of immunization against meningococcal disease, whooping cough and chicken pox, as well as the updated dose requirements for tetanus, diphtheria, polio, mumps, measles and rubella. Students who do not have up-to-date immunization records at the HNHU may be suspended from school until records are provided. It is the parent’s responsibility to report the updated immunization records to the HNHU.

When children are not vaccinated, they are at increased risk and can spread diseases to others in their classrooms and communities.  Getting immunized according to Ontario’s Immunization Schedule is one of the most important things parents can do to protect their child’s health.

Parents can update the record online by visiting hnhu.org and clicking the “online Immunization reporting” button under “Immunization.”. They also can mail a copy of his/her immunization record to a Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit location, fax it to 519-426-9246 or call a member of the Vaccine Preventable Diseases Program at 519-426-6170.
