Artificial Sweeteners in Pregnancy

Artificial sweeteners are sugar substitutes that have a sweet taste. Current research shows that most artificial sweeteners are safe to consume in moderation during pregnancy, including sucralose, aspartame, acesulfame potassium, and sugar alcohols. Cyclamate and saccharin are the only two that should be avoided. The only concern of consuming sweeteners is that you may be missing out on more nutritious foods and beverages that are better choices for mothers to be, such as milk, juice and water.
