Body Image and Eating Disorders
What is Body Image?
Body image is the mental picture you have of your body. A healthy body image is when you feel comfortable with your body and accept the way you look. An unhealthy body image is when you feel uncomfortable, embarrassed on unhappy with your body.
What are Eating Disorders?
Eating disorders are conditions where individuals are obsessed with food, eating, and their body size. The obsession takes over their everyday behaviours and daily thoughts. Individuals with eating disorders often have an unhealthy body image. The eating disorders we hear most about are anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder.
Eating disorders can cause physical and mental damage to both the individual and their loved ones. Seeking professional help is very important and can sometimes be lifesaving.
