Consider a career as a Public Health Inspector
SIMCOE, ON, JAN. 14, 2009 – If you’ve ever thought of a career as a Public Health Inspector (PHI), now is the time to find out more.
As part of Environmental Public Health Week, Jan. 19-24, the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit is inviting residents to contact the Environmental Health Team to find out more about how this team serves the community and to consider a career as an inspector.
“Environmental Public Health Week gives us a chance to inform and educate the public about the important role Public Health Inspectors play in the community,” said Team Program Coordinator Glen Steen. “We’re encouraging people to call the Health Unit for more information about the education and skills it takes to start a career in this challenging and rewarding area of public health.”
This year’s theme is “The State of the Profession.”
Public Health Inspectors have major responsibilities in food safety, drinking water quality, recreational water quality, air quality, tobacco control, childcare and institutional facilities conditions, disease outbreak management, rabies prevention and control, pandemic planning and many others.
“These programs play an important role in the health and well-being of people in their everyday lives,” Steen pointed out. “Environmental public health professionals are committed to promoting and protecting public health and continually meeting the new challenges from our environment that can affect human health.”
