Caledonia residents urged to build “walkable community”
SIMCOE, ON, FEB. 4, 2010 – The Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit is urging Caledonia area residents to participate in a public gathering on Monday, Feb. 15, to help build a “walkable community.”
“We are encouraging any group or organization making changes in the community around active living or walkable communities to attend,” said the Health Unit’s Heather Keam, a health promoter working with the community-based coalition, Caledonia on the Move, which is sponsoring the forum. “This is a community event that should not be missed. It’s a chance for grass-roots input into how we can develop a healthier, more active community.”
The event runs from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Remax Room, Caledonia Arena, 3-100 Haddington St., Caledonia.
There will be presentations by Haldimand County’s Leisure Services Division on the new Haldimand Trail Master Plan, as well as displays from various groups including Haldimand County, Caledonia Library, the Rotary Club, the OPP, Haldimand-Norfolk Community Senior Support Services and others. Organizers are providing a “kid zone” where children can play while parents are looking at the displays.
Wayne Knox of the Grand Erie Business Centre and a founding member of Caledonia on the Move said he has “seen many active living opportunities missed by Caledonia residents. This event will be an opportunity for residents to find out what is happening in their community around active living and get involved.”
