Prenatal Health Fair coming to Dunnville on April 20th

SIMCOE, APRIL 1, 2011 – Tips on pregnancy, ranging from family planning to parenting and everything in between, will be provided at a free fair in Dunnville later this month.

The Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit will be holding a Prenatal Fair, which will be of interest to anyone pregnant or planning a pregnancy, at Dunnville Secondary School on April 20th from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

“Welcoming a new baby into a family brings great excitement, discovery and surprises,” said Alayna Valters, a public health nurse with the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit. “The fair provides those who are pregnant, or those planning a pregnancy, the opportunity to speak to a variety of health professionals and community businesses and organizations who can answer the various questions they may have.”

Expecting mothers and their partners, friends and families will be able to find information on a wide range of products and services, from massage therapy and diaper services to pregnancy photography and pre-natal nutrition supplements.

Community agencies, including the Health Unit, will also be on hand to offer information on services and topics such as breastfeeding, post-partum depression, parenting and ways to be physically active with your newborn.

“We want to offer useful and practical information to pregnant mothers and their supporters, and help make their transition from expectant to new parent as smooth as possible,” Valters explained.

The evening will also include car seat safety demonstrations, demonstrations on infant massage and parent child rhyme time, along with door prizes and refreshments. Admission to the fair is free.

The popular, semi-annual fair has been alternating between Haldimand and Norfolk county locations since 2008. The next Prenatal Fair will be held in Vittoria in October of 2011.
