Pathways for People Celebrates Trail Day in Norfolk

SIMCOE, SEPTEMBER 21, 2015 – Trail Day in Norfolk County lands on Sunday, September 27th. This year’s trail walk will be held on the Norfolk Sunrise Trail in Simcoe.

Norfolk Pathways for People invites all interested walkers to meet at Lions Park on Davis Street in Simcoe, at 2pm. The plan is to follow the trail south to Argyle Street and then back track following the path through downtown Simcoe’s park system.

“We decided to follow an urban section of the trail this year to highlight its proximity to the downtown core,” said Gordon Mason, Chair of Norfolk Pathways for People. “There’s lots of research that says trails are good for business. We hope to encourage trail users to access nearby amenities while at the same time promoting use of our urban trails to get to local businesses, rather than driving.”

As an incentive to participate, Pathways for People has partnered with the Downtown Simcoe Business Improvement Area and local business, Blossoms and Scoops. Prizes have been donated for random draws among participants.

Downtown Simcoe BIA’s Executive Director, Larry Dawson, was quick to get on board for this event. “The Norfolk Sunrise Trail borders the east of downtown Simcoe, offering easy access to the many options offered in our downtown. Participate in this great event and enjoy what makes Norfolk County and Simcoe so special,” said Dawson.

Norfolk Pathways for People hosts three trail events each year to introduce the public to the extensive trail system that stretches throughout the county. The coalition’s mission is to promote pathways for walking and cycling in Norfolk County for health, recreation and active transportation.

Join us on Sunday, September 27th at 2pm and celebrate Trail Day in Norfolk County.
