Norfolk County, January 12, 2016 – Norfolk County is advising residents about the door-to-door sales of home based water treatment systems.  Norfolk County would like to reassure our municipal drinking water customers that the water produced by our treatment facilities meets or exceeds strict provincial standards and is safe to drink and you do NOT require an additional home water treatment system. Norfolk County has become aware of residents, both in our urban areas and rural property owners, being approached by door-to-door water treatment system sales people. These sales people are not working on behalf of Norfolk County. Any person working for or on behalf of Norfolk County will have proper photo identification and authorization from Norfolk County.

For Norfolk County residents that are not serviced by a municipal system, any health concerns regarding your private water system should be directed to the Haldimand – Norfolk Health Unit.  The health unit provides test bottles to rural well owners free of charge. These bottles are available at Norfolk County Administration Buildings.

The Ontario Ministry of the Environment is aware of these sales tactics and encourages residents to contact the Ministry of Consumer Services if they feel they have been treated unfairly through the following link, www.sse.gov.on.ca/mcs/en/Pages/default.aspx

Residents concerned about the safety of their water are asked to contact the Public Works Department or the Haldimand – Norfolk Health Unit.  Norfolk County publishes annual water quality reports for our municipal drinking water systems and makes them available on our website at www.norfolkcounty.ca
