Possible Suspensions for Students Without Complete Immunization Records says HNHU

SIMCOE October 28th, 2016 – The Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit (HNHU) will soon be suspending students that are not up to date on immunizations.

Under the Immunization of Schools Pupils Act, students born in 2008 and 2009 may be suspended if the HNHU has not received the information requested. One of the following must be reported for each child attending school:

  • An up-to-date immunization record
  • A medical exemption, or a Statement of Conscience or Religious BeliefAffidavit

This information helps ensure that children in Haldimand and Norfolk are protected against vaccine preventable diseases. “Students started to receive notification June 2015 for records that were absent or incomplete,” said Rose Huyge, program coordinator for the Vaccine Preventable Disease team.  “We have sent out numerous letters and have offered vaccination clinics at various locations in Haldimand and Norfolk”.

Suspensions will start November 7, 2016.  Under the Act students can be suspended for up to 20 days.  Those that have received a letter are encouraged to visit www.hnhu.org to report missing records or contact the Vaccine Preventable Disease team at 519-426-6170 ext. 3214 for more information.
