HNHU releases results from 2013-2014 audit
SIMCOE, NOVEMBER 23, 2016 – The Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit released the results of an audit of the Public Health Organizational Standards and Accountability Agreement for the years 2013 and 2014 today at the Board of Health meeting.
“The recommendations from the auditors provide an excellent opportunity for quality improvement to some of our health unit and corporate processes,” said Marlene Miranda, General Manager of the Haldimand-Norfolk Health and Social Services Department. “Many of the findings were areas that management staff had already identified and improvements had been made.”
The audit team worked with the Health Unit staff from October 2015 to the spring of 2016. Forty-eight (48) recommendations were made and of those eleven (11) have already been completed. For an additional twenty-two (22) recommendations, changes have been initiated. The recommendations addressed areas including Board by-laws, policies, procedures, procurement, documentation, risk management and community engagement. Programs and services standards to the public were not included in the audit.
The Ontario Internal Audit Division undertakes audits of health units in the province each year.
“We look forward to improving some of our processes to address the recommendations over the next year,” said Marlene Miranda, General Manager of the Haldimand-Norfolk Health and Social Services Department. “Staff will be bringing progress reports to the Board of Health as we address the findings.”
One of the recommendations already made by the Health Unit was the creation of a Strategic Plan which was launched in March of 2016. The complete plan is available on the health unit’s website at www.hnhu.org.
