Pathways for People celebrations continue with trail walk in Waterford
SIMCOE, OCTOBER 15, 2018 – The festivities to celebrate ten years of Norfolk Pathways for People will include a trail walk in Waterford and a visit to the Waterford Heritage and Agricultural Museum. The walk will start at the west end of Nichol Street, beside the old silos, and will end at the museum for some refreshments and a tour of their latest exhibits.
James Christison, curator of the museum, was quick to get on board with the celebrations. “The Waterford Heritage Trail is at our doorstep, literally,” said Christison. “We welcome the opportunity to bring trail users in to explore our exhibits.”
Anyone who hasn’t been on the trail lately is in for a treat as improvements to the trail system in Waterford continue.
“We have cleaned up and laid trail from the mini Black Bridge to Mechanic Street,” said Frank Woodcock, Pathways member and secretary of the Waterford Heritage Trail Association. “This allows fishermen to park at the conservation authority’s parking lot and access the fishing pond on foot. Our group is working to secure a bridge to span the remaining gap to the east. All this will be evident as we begin our walk from the Black Bridge and view the trails supervised by our daughter group, the Shadow Lake Trail Group.”
The October 21st event will be the 26th public trail event hosted by Pathways for People in their ten year history.
“Inviting people to walk with us is great exposure for the vast trail network Norfolk County is so lucky to have,” says Woodcock. “We know that visitors come here for our trails and we want to encourage locals to use them too.”
The walk begins at 2 p.m. Parking is available in the lot beside the silos and at the Waterford Heritage and Agricultural Museum, at 159 Nichol Street. Bicycle parking is also available at the museum.
Norfolk Pathways for People hosts two trail events each year to introduce the public to Norfolk’s extensive trail system. The coalition’s mission is to promote pathways for walking and cycling for health, recreation and active transportation.
