Nutrition Services by Registered Dietitians
In Ontario, all residents can speak to a Registered Dietitian for FREE by calling 8-1-1 or using the chat function on the Health 811 website.
Registered Dietitians (RDs) are uniquely trained food and nutrition experts that can translate scientific, medical, and nutritional information into practical recommendations for individuals, families, and communities.
Public Health Dietitians work in the community to provide nutrition-related information and resources while working to create supportive food environments and sustainable food systems. The Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit RDs do not provide one–on–one consultation. If you need to speak to someone about nutrition, continue below to find RDs in your area, or call 8-1-1.
In Ontario, Registered Dietitians are regulated healthcare professionals. That means that Dietitians have successfully completed a four-year university degree in an accredited foods and nutrition program, a one-year internship, and a national registration exam. Dietitians must also report to a regulated professional body. In Ontario, that is the College of Dietitians of Ontario.
Nutritionist or Registered Nutritionist is not a regulated title or health profession in Ontario, meaning that anyone can use the title. Some dietitians may call themselves a nutritionist, but not all nutritionists are Dietitians. Nutritionists may be an unreliable source of nutrition information. If your healthcare provider describes themself as a nutritionist, ask for their credentials.
