Book a COVID-19 Vaccine Appointment
As of April 2024, HNHU has significantly decreased its Community COVID-19 vaccine clinics.
Participating pharmacies in Haldimand and Norfolk counties will continue administering COVID-19 vaccines for all those six months of age and older who need to initiate or complete a primary series.
The Ontario Ministry of Health is also recommending that the following individuals may receive an additional booster dose this spring:
- Adults 65 years of age and older
- Adult residents of long-term care homes and other congregate settings for seniors
- Individuals 6 months of age and older who are moderately to severely immunocompromised (due to an underlying condition or treatment)
- Individuals 55 years of age or older who identify as First Nations, Inuit or Metis and their non-indigenous household members who are 55 years and older
- Individuals who have not been previously vaccinated.
All others that have had an XBB dose in the fall campaign are considered “one and done” and can wait for the Fall 2024 COVID-19 booster campaign.
At this time HNHU will be offering limited community clinics starting mid May for those who need to initiate or complete a primary series and those falling within the spring recommendations.

Please note: The Haldimand Norfolk Health Unit has decreased its COVID-19 Vaccine program effective April 1st, 2024.
HNHU will continue to offer limited COVID-19 vaccine appointments only to those between 6 months + who need to initiate or complete a primary series or fall within the spring booster guidance noted above.
Appointments are required to help staff adequately prepare for administration. Appointments at HNHU are limited, and if you do not meet the qualifications for the spring booster, you may be turned away.

Suggested Interval Between Infection and Vaccination
* As per NACI, vaccination using shorter intervals (i.e. 3 months to < 6 months) following previous vaccination or infection has not been shown to pose a safety risk, though evidence shows that the antibody response is higher with longer intervals between infection and vaccination and with longer intervals between vaccination doses.
The XBB 1.5 COVID-19 vaccine is an updated version of the COVID-19 vaccine. The new formulation offers better protection against newer variants compared to previous COVID-19 vaccines, and in alignment with the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI), it is the recommended formulation for this season.
Individuals 6 months and older may receive a COVID-19 vaccine simultaneously with (i.e., same day), or at any time before or after non-COVID-19 vaccines (including live and non-live vaccines).
There are two exceptions. COVID-19 vaccines should not be co-administered with the Imvamune vaccine (for MPOX) and the Arexvy vaccine for Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV).
For those who received Imvamune: It is recommended to wait at least four weeks before or after administration of an Imvamune vaccine. However, the administration of Imvamune as pre- or post-exposure vaccination should not be delayed in an individual who has recently received a COVID-19 vaccine.
For those who received Arexvy: It is recommended to wait at least two weeks before or after administration of the RSV vaccine.

Please report your side effects to your family doctor.
It is important to remember that some people may experience side effects from the vaccine, but they will likely be moderate and resolve after a few days. Some of the symptoms are part of the body’s response to developing immunity.
Re-vaccination is recommended with a new COVID-19 vaccine series given the loss of immunity following:
- hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT)
- hematopoietic cell transplants (HCT) (autologous or allogeneic) CAR-T-cell therapy
Timing should be determined on a case-by-case basis in consultation with your clinical team:
- Six months to four years old should get either two doses of the COVID-19 Moderna XBB vaccine or three doses of COVID-19
- Pfizer XBB vaccine; eight weeks apart
- Five years and older should get one dose of the updated COVID-19 vaccine.
You may bring a letter to your vaccination appointments highlighting the optimal timing to restart your COVID-19 vaccine series.

Out of Province Vaccine
As per provincial guidelines, individuals who have received a partial or complete COVID-19 vaccine series outside of Ontario or Canada should contact their local public health unit to have their COVID-19 immunization record documented in the provincial database, COVaxON.

Ensuring vaccination information is up-to-date and complete will enable individuals to:
- Book a second dose appointment through the provincial booking system, their local public health unit or through participating pharmacies or primary care settings;
- Receive an Ontario vaccination receipt; and
- Share their COVID-19 immunization records with their healthcare providers
Receiving Confirmation of your Appointment
After you select a clinic location, date, and appointment time on the next step of this booking tool, you should receive an email confirmation of your appointment. Please check your spam or junk folders if you have not received an email confirmation.
Even if you do not receive an email confirmation, once you select a clinic location, date, and time and a confirmation message pops up, your appointment is booked. Please write down the location, date, and time. Do not book multiple appointments.
