Celebrating 10 Years of Smoke-Free Ontario
SIMCOE, June 1, 2016
WHAT: Youth volunteers are celebrating the 10th anniversary Smoke-Free Ontario (SFO). The event will include a variety of games such as Zorb racing, giant Jenga and human checkers, all supporting the theme of “beating tobacco at their own games”.
WHO: The Health Education and Advocacy Team, a youth volunteer group with the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit will be hosting the event, along with their allies from Brant County Public Health, Hamilton Public Health and the Canadian Cancer Society.
WHEN: The event is scheduled for Sunday, June 5th, 2016. The public is invited to join in on the fun at Powell Park from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
WHERE: Activities will be located at Powell Park, 250 Main St., Port Dover.
WHY: Since 2006, SFO has been making our province a better place to breathe and youth volunteers, locally, regionally and provincially, have been involved in making some important changes.
Additional Details: World No Tobacco Day, May 31st, marks the 10th anniversary of Smoke-Free Ontario. Each year the World Health Organization announces a theme for World No Tobacco Day. This year the WHO is calling on countries to get ready for plain and standardized packaging. HEAT volunteers will be educating the public about the need for plain and standardized packaging at the event on June 5th.
