Vaccine Eligibility

 

  • Health Canada has authorized the use of Pfizer pediatric vaccine for infants aged 6 months to 5 years. This product is now available to the Haldimand and Norfolk communities.
  • Health Canada has authorized the use of Pfizer bivalent vaccine. This product is now available as a booster dose for everyone 12+. This product is now available to the Haldimand and Norfolk communities.
  • Health Canada has authorized the use of Moderna bivalent vaccine. This product is now available as a booster dose for everyone 18+. This product is now available to the Haldimand and Norfolk communities.
  • Health Canada has authorized the use of a Pfizer COVID-19 booster vaccine for five to-11-year olds. This product is now available to the Haldimand and Norfolk communities.
  • Health Canada has authorized the use of a Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for individuals aged six months to five years old. This product is now available to the Haldimand and Norfolk communities.
  • The National Advisory Committee on Immunizations (NACI) states that any of the bivalent Omicron-containing mRNA boosters are preferred over the original formulation boosters for authorized age groups (18 years of age and older for Moderna bivalent vaccines and 12 years of age and older for Pfizer-BioNTech bivalent vaccines).
  • Individuals who are 12 years of age and older are now eligible for booster doses. Booster doses for these groups are recommended at an interval of six months (168 days) after the previous dose but can be received at a minimum interval of three months (84 days).
  • Moderately to severely immunocompromised individuals aged 12+ who received a three-dose primary series are eligible for a booster dose. Booster doses for these groups are recommended at an interval of six months. Doses can be received at a minimum interval of three months.
  • If you have recently had COVID-19 you are still eligible for a primary series or booster dose of the vaccine. Residents should wait until they are out of isolation and symptoms have resolved to receive their next dose. The NACI recommendation for the COVID-19 vaccine after COVID-19 infection is to wait up to three months after infection to receive the next dose.

  • The Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit continues to remind residents that being up to date on COVID-19 vaccines is the most effective way to protect yourself from severe COVID-19 infection and hospitalization, including infection with the Omicron variant. With the fall respiratory season upon us, and as social activities have shifted indoors, it is encouraged to protect oneself by getting vaccinated.
  • NACI recommends that COVID-19 vaccinations should be offered to children 5-11 years of age
  • NACI recommends that COVID-19 vaccinations may be offered to children 6 months-5 years of age.
