Statistics for residents

 

• Vaccine doses administered so far: 260, 080
• Proportion of local population 5+ with at least 1 dose: 82.2%

Vaccine Eligibility

 

• Health Canada has authorized the use Moderna bivalent vaccine. This product is now available as a booster dose for those in the following high-risk categories:
  • Residents of Long-term care homes, retirement homes, elder care lodges and adults living in other congregate settings that provided assisted-living and health services
  • Age 70+ individuals
  • Age 18+ immunocompromised individuals
  • Age 18+ pregnant individuals
  • Health care workers
  • Age 12-17 moderately to severe immunocompromised individuals
  • First Nations, Metis, Inuit and their non-Indigenous household members
• All other community members will be eligible to receive the Moderna bivalent vaccine beginning the week of September 26th.
• Health Canada has authorized the use of a Pfizer COVID-19 booster vaccine for five to-11-year old’s. This product is now available to Haldimand and Norfolk communities and can be booked through our website, org/popup
• Health Canada has authorized the use of a Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for individuals aged six months to five years old. This product is now available to the Haldimand and Norfolk communities.
• Individuals who are 18 years of age and older are now eligible for an additional booster (i.e. fourth dose). Booster doses for these groups are recommended at an interval of five months (140 days) after the previous dose but can be received at a minimum interval of three months (84 days).
• Moderately to severely immunocompromised individuals aged 12+ who received a three-dose primary series are eligible for a second booster dose (i.e. fifth dose). Second booster doses for these groups are recommended at an interval of five months for individuals aged 18+ and at an interval of 6 months for individuals aged 12-17. Doses can be received at a minimum interval of three months.
• If you have recently had COVID-19 you are still eligible for a first, second, or booster dose of the vaccine. Residents should wait until they are out of isolation and symptoms have resolved to receive their next dose. The National Advisory Committee on Immunizations (NACI) recommendation for the COVID-19 vaccine after COVID-19 infection is to wait up to three months after infection to receive the next dose.

• Appointments for first, second, and booster doses are available across the two counties and through various channels, including public health clinics, primary care, pharmacies, and pop-up clinics. Appointments can be booked at org/popup.
• GO-VAXX bus clinic appointments can be booked at ca/bookvaccine and are posted 4 days prior to the clinic. Pfizer (for individuals aged 12+) and Pediatric Pfizer (for individuals aged five to 11) will be available. Walk-ins welcome. The upcoming schedule is as follows:

• Tuesday, September 20 – Port Dover Library, between 10 a.m. and 4713 St. George St., between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
• Thursday, September 22 – Caledonia Library, 100 Haddington St., between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
• Friday, September 23 – Health & Social Services, 12 Gilbertson Drive, Simcoe, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

• The Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit continues to remind residents that being up to date on COVID-19 vaccines is the most effective way to protect yourself from severe COVID-19 infection and hospitalization, including infection with the Omicron variant. With the fall season soon approaching and as social activities shift indoors, it is encouraged to protect oneself by getting vaccinated.
• NACI strongly recommends the COVID-19 vaccine for five to 11-year-olds. Getting children vaccinated is an important way to protect them. Children can book an appointment and the schedule can be found on the booking tool at hnhu.org/popup.
