Event drew 200 participants last year – Popular Prenatal Fair slated for Simcoe Oct. 14

SIMCOE, ON, SEPT. 11, 2009 – The highly successful Prenatal Fair that drew more than 200 participants last year will be re-staged in Simcoe on Wednesday, Oct. 14.

The free fair, which features dozens of exhibits by local businesses and community agencies on pregnancy and parenting, takes place at the Simcoe Composite School gym, 40 Wilson Dr., from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

“If there’s a baby in your future, this event gives you one-stop shopping for a variety of products, services and insights into childrearing,” said Public Health Nurse Angela Swick. “Last year dozens of businesses and services set up booths and we drew more than 200 participants. We got very positive reviews.”

Vendors’ booths will cover such areas as chiropractic, pharmaceuticals, financial planning, photography and massage therapy. Community agencies, including the Health Unit, that offer information and services on pregnancy and parenting will also be on hand.

“Our goal is to get information into the hands of future parents, grandparents and other caregivers as early in pregnancy as possible,” Swick explained “There will be fun events and door prizes as well as information and there is absolutely no charge for admission.”

In addition to educational displays, the Health Unit is hosting a small cafe with free, light refreshments. There will be two presentations during the evening: a car seat safety demonstration and a pregnancy fashion show. “One of the interesting displays will be a taste testing of commercial baby food versus homemade,” Swick noted.
