Free swim event planned for May 10

Just in time for Mother’s Day weekend

SIMCOE, ON, MAY 1, 2008 – The Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit and Haldimand-Norfolk REACH are urging residents to make use of a free preschool and family swim in Simcoe on Saturday, May 10.

The swim takes place at the Simcoe Recreation Centre pool, with the preschool swim from 6 to 7 p.m. and the family swim from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The swim is sponsored by the Haldimand and Norfolk division of the Ontario Early Years Centre, a division of REACH, and the Health Action Haldimand-Norfolk heart health and cancer prevention program.

Before and after the swim period, people will be able to view displays and get information on OEYC programming, speech and language information, and information on making your home heart healthy.

Children will particularly enjoy meeting Heartly the Health Hawk, who will make an appearance.

“We want to help families be more active,” said Heather Keam, a Health Unit Health Promoter who is the Heart Health Coordinator for Health Action. “The free swim provides an ideal opportunity for people to enjoy a family outing and get some healthy exercise at the same time.”

“It’s important for families to play, to learn, to grow together,” said local OEYC supervisor Tamara Pedley.
