Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit remind public of roles and responsibilities associated with COVID-19 enforcement
The Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit would like to remind the public of the different roles and responsibilities when it comes to COVID-19-related rules as delegated by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) to ensure compliance with the Quarantine Act.
When a Quarantine Act compliance check is required, PHAC will request support from police. Once this ‘call for service’ is received, the agency assigned will travel to the location provided by PHAC and complete the check as required. Findings are reported back to PHAC, who is responsible for further enforcement/follow-up.
All municipal law enforcement officers (including police, By-Law Officers, Building Inspectors) are authorized – under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act & Health Protection and Promotion Act – to enforce municipal by-laws and emergency orders issued by provincial and local Medical Officers of Health.
The Health Unit appreciate the public’s cooperation and understanding as it works to keep the community safe.
