Health Unit Informs Parents about New Required Immunization

SIMCOE, SEPTEMBER 18, 2015– The Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit would like to remind parents that all children attending school need to be immunized according to the Immunization School Pupils Act (ISPA). Immunization protects children from many serious diseases, including measles, mumps and polio that are easily spread in schools.

As of the 2014-2015 school year, there are three additional vaccines required to protect against the following diseases:

  • Meningococcal Disease
  • Whooping Cough (Pertussis)
  • Chicken Pox (Varicella) (for children born after 2010)

Students must present proof of immunization to attend school. The HNHU would like to remind parents that it is their responsibility to report the updated immunization records to the HNHU. It is vital for the HNHU to have this updated information because it is public health’s responsibility to identify, report and manage an outbreak.

Parents can submit records to the HNHU by calling in, by faxing it in or by dropping it off to an HNHU office.

For more information about immunization and the Immunization School Pupils Act, please contact the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit’s Vaccine Preventable Disease Team at (519) 426-6170 Ext. 3472
