Health Unit warns of phoney water inspector

COMMUNITY ALERT

SIMCOE, ON, JUNE 12, 2007 – The Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit is warning residents to beware of someone misrepresenting himself as a Health Unit water inspector.

“We have been notified that in Simcoe and surrounding area there is a water treatment company making phone calls claiming to be from the Health Unit,” said Glen Steen, the Health Unit’s Healthy Environment Program Coordinator. “The person gives the name Dave, claims to be from the Health Unit and offers to send a technician around to the house to take a water sample and test for salt. Be advised that the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit is not testing for salt in private water systems in any areas in Haldimand or Norfolk counties.”

All legitimate Public Health Inspectors carry Health Unit identification and will show it on request.

“If someone comes to your door or calls wanting to sample your water and claiming to be from the Health Unit, ask for identification,” Steen cautioned. “Get the name and phone number of the company and report it to the police and/or the Health Unit at 519-426-6170.”
