Popular Prenatal Fair coming to Vittoria Oct. 21

SIMCOE, OCTOBER 4, 2010 – The Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit’s highly successful Prenatal Fair will be coming to Vittoria. The free fair, featuring dozens of exhibits by local businesses and community agencies on issues relating to pregnancy and parenting, will take place at the Vittoria Community Centre on October 21st, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

This prenatal fair will be the fifth edition of the bi-annual event, which alternates between various locations throughout Haldimand and Norfolk, and the Health Unit expects to see crowds similar to previous fairs.

“Last year dozens of businesses and services set up booths and we drew more than 200 participants,” said Public Health Nurse Angela Swick. “If there’s a baby in your future, this event gives you one-stop shopping for a variety of products, services and information about pregnancy and raising a little one. It’s a great place for pregnant women to find answers to any questions they might have.”

Expecting mothers will be able to find information on a wide range of products and services, from massage therapy, financial planning and pregnancy photography to pharmaceuticals, home cleaning services and cord blood banks.

Community agencies, including the Health Unit, will also be on hand to offer information on services and topics such as breastfeeding, post-partum depression, parenting and ways to be physically active with your newborn.

“Our goal is to get information into the hands of future parents, grandparents and other caregivers as early in pregnancy as possible,” Swick explained. “There will be a car seat safety demonstration, door prizes, snacks, and the best part is there is no charge for admission.”
