Preschool Speech and Language and Infant Hearing screens to be delivered by new lead agencies
July 25, 2019, Simcoe, ON – Effective October 1, 2019, the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit will no longer provide services currently done through the Preschool Speech and Language program.
The Health Unit’s service agreement with Affiliated Services for Children and Youth for the Infant Hearing screens will also come to an end on September 30. The agreement will not be renewed by the Health Unit.
It is understood that Lansdowne Children’s Centre will deliver the Preschool Speech and Language program.
Affiliated Services for Children and Youth will continue to deliver the Infant Hearing program.
“Our priority is to ensure the success of our children. Across the province, these programs are often delivered by specialized child treatment centres, which provide an integrated and coordinated approach to children in need of these important early intervention programs,” says General Manager, Health and Social Services and Chief Nursing Officer, Marlene Miranda. “We are committed to collaborating with the lead agencies to ensure a smooth transition for each child and family.”
Staff are working on detailed transition plans for each child currently accessing the programs to ensure a smooth and successful seamless transition for each family.
Parents of each child currently in the programs or on the waitlist will be notified by registered mail with details specific to their child in August.
Those with specific questions about their children and these changes can call 519-426-6170, ext. 4444.
