Social Services and Housing working with childcare providers to prepare for re-opening

June 11, 2020, Simcoe, ON – Haldimand and Norfolk’s Social Services and Housing team is working closely with the area’s licenced childcare providers to prepare for their safe re-opening.

As announced this week by the Provincial government, childcare providers in Ontario can re-open starting Friday, June 12, however it is expected that many providers will require additional time to recall staff, develop safety plans and make other necessary arrangements.

“I know it’s been a real struggle for parents who have been balancing work and home duties, or who are now able to return to work but are in need of childcare,” says Kristal Chopp, Chair of the Board of Health. “The safe re-opening of area childcare facilities is a critically important step in Haldimand and Norfolk’s gradual return to some level of normalcy – something I know we’re all looking forward to.”

The Province’s guidelines for re-opening require childcare providers to limit attendance, restrict visitation and clean facilities before opening and throughout the day, among other things.

Social Services and Housing staff are in regular contact with licenced childcare providers, and will update the community as more information becomes available.
