Suicide Prevention Forum Nov. 25 in Townsend
SIMCOE, ON, NOV. 13, 2008 – The Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit is promoting a Suicide Prevention Forum in Townsend on Nov. 25 aimed at service providers, as well as survivors and their families and friends.
The event, sponsored by Suicide Prevention Network of Haldimand-Norfolk, takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Children’s Aid Society building.
“Guest speaker Judge James Clarke will tell of his journey coming to terms with the tragic loss of his wife to suicide,” said Health Unit Public Health Nurse Marilyn Antkiw. “Judge Clarke’s message of resilience and hope is chronicled in his inspiring book, A Mourner’s Kaddish, Suicide and the Rediscovery of Hope.”
Copies of the book will be available for purchase and autograph by Judge Clarke.
“We are encouraging any interested members of the public to attend,” Antkiw said. “When we lose a member of our community to suicide, we are all the lesser for it.”
The Suicide Prevention Network of Haldimand-Norfolk promotes the development of suicide safer communities through education and awareness, training and other prevention initiatives. Network partners include Community Addictions and Mental Health Services of Haldimand-Norfolk, Grand Erie District School Board, Children’s Aid Society of Haldimand-Norfolk, Canadian Mental Health Association, Community Support Centre of Haldimand-Norfolk, Resource Centre – Simcoe, Haldimand & Norfolk Women’s Services, HN REACH, OPP and community members.
