Evacuation order lifted
Norfolk County Control Group / norfolkcounty.ca/emergency
Norfolk County, ON – September 14, 2017 – The second gas well leaking hydrogen sulphide (H2S) has been brought into compliance.
The well is now officially abandoned under the mandate of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.
The remaining three residences have been notified that the evacuation order has been lifted by the Medical Officer of Health. Those families can return to their homes.
An exclusion zone in the area has also been lifted, as the threats to public health have been remedied.
Norfolk County’s Emergency Control Group would like to remind citizens who believe a well is leaking H2S to contact the Spills Action Centre of the Ontario Ministry of Environment and Climate Change by calling 1-800-268-6060 immediately.
Citizens should always be prepared for emergencies. For more information on how to be prepared, visit norfolkcounty.ca/emergency.
