Community Vaccine Update – April 19, 2021

Status updates

• The Health Unit is currently vaccinating eligible individuals in Phase 2 of the province’s rollout framework. All eligible individuals are encouraged to use the online booking tool to set up an appointment.
• To date, over 30,000 doses of vaccine have been administered to residents of Haldimand-Norfolk. This means that approximately 25% of adults in both counties have received at least a first dose of vaccine. Clinics continue to run at capacity, and additional clinic days have been added to meet current demands.
• The HNHU has enough vaccine stockpile to complete all doses scheduled up to Friday, May 7, 2021, accounting for incoming shipments. The HNHU has requested additional trays of vaccine from the province in order to expedite community rollout.
• The HNHU has now received three brands of COVID-19 vaccine, Pfizer, Moderna, and AstraZeneca and strongly encourages the public to accept any vaccine they are offered to increase herd immunity as quickly as possible.

Who’s eligible / how to book an appointment

Residents 60+

• Residents 60 and above may book a vaccine appointment using the online booking tool. Eligible individuals may also call the Vaccine Hotline or e-mail [email protected] to set up an appointment. Please be patient and do not leave multiple messages; your call/e-mail will be returned.

Residents with at-risk health conditions (waitlist only)

• Residents with at-risk health conditions may add their names to a wait-list for potential end-of-day appointments (due to cancellations, no-shows, etc).
• At-risk conditions include: immune deficiencies/ autoimmune disorders, history of stroke or cardiovascular disease, dementia, diabetes, liver disease, all other cancers, respiratory diseases, spleen disorders, heart disease, hypertension with end organ failure, diagnosis of mental disorders, substance use disorders, thalassemia, pregnancy, immunocompromising health conditions, other disabilities requiring direct support care in the community, or sickle cell disease. Eligible individuals will only be contacted if there are available doses at end of day at the various clinic locations. The waitlist signup form is available at hnhu.org/vaccinewaitlist.

Residents 40+ (pharmacies only)

• Beginning tomorrow, April 20, 2021, residents 40 and above will be eligible to register for the AstraZeneca vaccine at specific local pharmacies. For more information, please visit https://covid-19.ontario.ca/vaccine-locations. Eligible individuals must book through the pharmacies themselves, not the Health Unit.

Outstanding vaccine recipients

• Residents 65 and above and individuals with highest-risk health conditions who have not yet received a vaccine are encouraged to complete the Outstanding Vaccination Recipients registration form. This form will ensure individuals who have called the vaccine hotline and are truly outstanding are being booked in as quickly as possible.

The HNHU Vaccine Hotline is receiving up to 1000 calls per day and staff are responding to calls as quickly as possible. Please do not call the hotline again once you have left a message and await a reply. Your initial call/e-mail WILL be returned.
