Haldimand-Norfolk Board of Health appoints Dr. Matt Strauss as new Acting Medical Officer of Health
The Haldimand-Norfolk Board of Health is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Matt Strauss as the Acting Medical Officer of Health.
Dr. Strauss is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Queen’s University and previously an Assistant Clinical Professor at McMaster University. He has practiced as an Intensivist / Internist and Medical Director of Critical Care at Guelph General Hospital.
With great knowledge and passion for public health and the social determinants of health, Dr. Strauss is delighted to be joining the team at the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit. He also looks forward to deepening his understanding of the community and relocating his family to the area later this year.
“What stood out most during the interview process was Dr. Strauss’ interest in our agriculture community, noting he had already begun to engage with local farmers, and looked forward to fostering those relationships,” said Mayor Kristal Chopp, Chair of the Board of Health. “The board and I wish him great success as Haldimand-Norfolk’s Acting Medical Officer of Health.”
Since May, Dr. Alex Hukowich served as the Interim Acting Medical Officer of Health, offering oversight and management of the pandemic, vaccination rollout, and other various programs in Norfolk and Haldimand counties.
The Chair of the Board expressed her sincere gratitude to Dr. Hukowich for his support and leadership over the last few months.
Dr. Strauss’ appointment, effective September 14, was unanimously approved by members of the Haldimand and Norfolk Board of Health.
