Haldimand-Norfolk hits 40,000th dose milestone, thanks community partners

The Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit – along with Norfolk General, West Haldimand General, and Haldimand War Memorial Hospitals, family physicians and health teams, community paramedics and their partners – have now administered over 40,000 vaccinations within the community.

Local physicians have been working closely with the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit to expedite vaccine rollout in accordance with provincial guidelines. Over 15 different offices and physicians are receiving deliveries of Moderna COVID-19 vaccines when supply is available. All confirmations of patient first doses are provided by physicians to the Health Unit for data entry.

“Being able to provide vaccinations, as well as answer any individual questions my patients may have, has been a rewarding experience,” said Dr. Mark Ghesquiere, one of the first physicians involved in the Moderna vaccine program. “Our goal is always to do what is best for our patients, and right now, in this pandemic, getting as many people as possible vaccinated safely and efficiently is the number one goal.”

“The amazing staff we have at the Health Unit, both facilitating clinics and doing all the background planning, in collaboration with all of our community partners have worked so hard to reach this milestone,” said Sarah Page, COVID-19 Vaccine Team Lead and Norfolk County Paramedic Chief. “We have more work to do and more vaccinations to deliver, but we are pushing forward as quickly as we can with the supply we’re receiving from the province.”

Haldimand and Norfolk counties combined have a population just above 110,000, which means that approximately 35% of all residents have received at least one dose to date.

As the Province expands eligibility to include lower age groups and more essential workers, there will be an increased demand for vaccinations. The Health Unit is asking residents to be patient when booking an appointment, as more clinic dates and appointments will be added regularly.
