Special Events

 

The Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit (HNHU) has resumed the process of approving special event applications. Special event organizers must submit a Special Event Organizer Application to HNHU at least 60 days prior to the event. Food providers must submit a Food Provider Application to HNHU at least 30 days prior to the event.

 


 

All persons and/or organizations planning to sell or offer services to the public at a special event held in either Haldimand County or Norfolk County must submit a special event application to Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit (HNHU) prior to the start of the event. There is no fee associated with the approval process.

Your special event may include food, drinks, face painting, petting zoos, ear piercing, etc. A public health inspector (PHI) must review and approve your application prior to the start of the event. This is to protect the health and safety of the public attending your event.

Which Special Events will require the approval of the Health Unit?

Any special events that plans to sell or offer services to the general public will require the approval of a public health inspector.

Organizers are responsible for collecting and submitting food provider application forms from all of your food providers to the health unit within the specified deadlines. Food provider-specific forms can be found below.

Food Providers

food truck If you plan on selling, serving or giving food and/or drinks away at a special event, then you are a food provider.

Food providers are responsible for submitting their applications to the event organizer, who will then submit the forms to the health unit.

Please note that if you are a food provider who is not affiliated with an event organizer, it your responsibility to submit a Special Event Food Provider Application Form to the health unit within the required deadline.

Exempt Food Providers

food prep Religious organizations, fraternal organizations and service clubs may be exempt from the Ontario Regulation 493/17: Food Premises.

Exempt groups are still required to be in compliance with the Health Protection and Promotion Act and must notify the health unit of any special events that involves the sale or distribution of food and drinks that will be accessible to the general public.

If you think you are part of an exempt group or that your special event should be exempted, please contact the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit and ask to speak to a public health inspector, who will assist you in making that determination.

Animal Exhibits

pony ride at fair Exhibits where human contact can be made with animals need to be evaluated and assessed by a public health inspector. Exhibits can include, but are not limited to petting zoos, animal rides, or farm exhibits.

Animal exhibit vendors are responsible for submitting their application to the event organizer, who will then submit the forms to the health unit.

Personal Service Settings

face painting Personal services can refer to beauty and/or body art. At a special event, personal services can include but are not limited to face painting, tattooing, piercings and nail services.

Personal services vendors are responsible for submitting their application to the event organizer, who will then submit the forms to the health unit.
