Health Unit reminds residents to continue social distancing as mass gathering limits increase

June 11, 2020, Simcoe, ON – The Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit is continuing to urge people to continue practicing social distancing even once the number of people allowed at a mass gathering is increased to 10 on Friday.

While the Province is not allowing Haldimand and Norfolk to proceed to the second stage of Ontario’s re-opening plan, the new mass gathering rules do apply to the two counties.

“Social distancing remains one of the best ways to break the chain of virus transmission,” says Medical Officer of Health Dr. Shanker Nesathurai.

The Health Unit has revoked two orders put in place early in the pandemic, before the Province issued its own orders. One ordered food premises to close except for takeout and/or delivery, while the other closed personal service settings such as tattoo parlours, barbershops, hair and nail salons, spas, tanning beds and banquet halls.

While these orders have been revoked by the Health Unit, the rules remain in effect for as long as Haldimand and Norfolk stay in the first stage of Ontario’s re-opening plan.

That means food premises in the area may not open except for takeout and/or delivery, and personal service settings must remain closed until the Province allows Haldimand and Norfolk to move to the next stage of re-opening.
