Statement from Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit about vaccine administration concern
During one of the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit’s vaccination clinics in August, it was determined that there was a discrepancy in the inventory count of Pfizer.
What this means is some members of the community may have received harmless saline diluent (the ingredient used to mix the vaccine concentrate with) instead of the prepared Pfizer vaccine.
It is important to note that this occurrence affected only one clinic, and all individuals affected have been notified. If you have not been contacted by the Haldimand-Norfolk Health unit, you do not need to take further actions related to your vaccination.
There are no anticipated health effects from receiving the saline diluent, except it will not protect individuals against COVID-19.
Out of an abundance of caution, individuals affected were notified that they must be provided with an additional vaccine to ensure their immunity levels are not compromised.
Receiving a third dose of the vaccine is safe, with very little adverse effect, other than a sore arm.
