Update: Outbreak of COVID-19 at Scotlynn Group farm

June 19, 2020, Simcoe, ON – The Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit continues to respond to an outbreak of COVID-19 at a Scotlynn Group farm.

The outbreak began in the last week of May, and at that time, the people affected by the outbreak were tested for COVID-19. As part of the outbreak response, some individuals were recently retested. As a result, twelve migrant workers who previously tested negative for the virus have now tested positive. These workers are self-isolating.

At the current time, there are 181 positive cases among migrant farm workers and 18 cases among people associated with the farm.

Three members of the migrant worker community are in hospital, and two are in intensive care. A total of 13 individuals associated with this outbreak have been treated in the hospital.

All those who served a self-isolation period at hotels have returned to their residences at the farm.

The outbreak continues to be largely contained to the farm, and any close contacts of farm workers are in self-isolation. The Health Unit team continues to manage the situation in an effort to bring the outbreak to a conclusion.
