Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit confirms first case of COVID-19
March 26, 2020, Simcoe, ON – The Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit has confirmed the first case of a novel coronavirus (COVID-19) within its jurisdiction.
The first confirmed case is a resident of Norfolk County, is currently experiencing mild symptoms and continues to self-isolate at home.
The Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit has initiated a public health management plan. This includes identifying any individuals who may have been in close contact with the person who had the positive test. All the close contacts are currently in self-isolation.
“In the context of the number of cases reported in the province, this first case is not unexpected. The Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit will continue to work with the counties of Haldimand and Norfolk as well as hospitals, community health centers and community physicians to formulate a response to COVID-19,” says Medical Officer of Health Shanker Nesathurai.
